rather than go by that, i'd suggest looking at completion rate for games. most of them are in the 10-20% range.. 1/10 to 1/5 players.. or even better:

picking out "The Last of Us Part II" .. and going by what you suggest, a "Leisure" run (howlongtobeat.com's category) of that game is *30* hours.

this to me implies that there aren't necessarily strict categories of gamers as you suggest, just people who will play something through that is good. and would want to hold on to that experience for another go at some point.

If your investment in a console generation is under 900 bucks in 6 years then you are unlikely to care as much as somebody who regards gaming as
an elevated form or culture or as a part of his identity.

this is just arbitrary. make up a percentage next time for good measure. 90% of people named Arelor are apologists for Sony, subscription culture, etc.

If 85% of the world population were casual gamers who bought 2 games per year top, it would dwarf Hollywood and my points would still stand. In fact that would reinforce my hunch that Sony intends to capitalize on little fishes because it would make more sense.

you unquoted this part, which is what i was refuting:

the point of bringing up that metric was to point out that there are far better ways to measure what might constitute a "gamer" than your arbitrary
"games per year."

i'd say most people who are into video games are *not* just casual at all. perhaps if you lump in phone gaming, which is another thing entirely.
